Meet the Greeks is Tuesday September 7th from 7-9 in the TOWERS residential restaurant.
Each fraternity is diffrent and are established on diffrent ideals, values and beliefs. Your job is finding the one that you feel you could see yourself being apart of.
As for me, I am a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. If you want to check us out we will be @ Meet The Greeks and also you can check out our Website(although in dire need of an update) at http://www.rso.cmich.edu/sae

Recruitment/ Rush occurs next week i believe. But do not quote me on that.
yes. rush starts on sunday
Alpha Sigma Phi will be at meet the greeks both tonight and tomorrow night, and i encourage anyone merely entertaining the idea of joining a fraternity to check it out. Great group of guys, and here is your chance to help start a fraternity and be considered a founding father.
If you need anymore info, feel free to PM Me.

I keep hearing from people that frat guys are mindless jerks who act like 5 year olds and are people who have to buy there friends because they dont know how to make friends. What does everybody whose nongreek think about that?
Me personally I dont know I havent' really hung out with any frats
Phi Kappa Tau, Phi Sigma Phi, and Alpha Chi Rho are the best you can get with.
There are a few frats that are still having a hard time following rules and are gonna lose their charters which will make them not greek which would be a waste of time for you. A lot of the bigger groups that are on campus will take you just to take you so they have numbers and your money.

most non greeks have some form of bias against greek life.
its easier just to go give it a shot, and only slightly listen to what people say

I graduated from CMU last May. I'm an alumnus of Phi Kappa Tau. Being in a fraternity was probably the greatest experience of my life. Don't join the first group that hands you a bid...look around, see what you can find. You'll find a group you fit in with. And don't ask people about what they think of which group. You'll just cloud your vision with the stereotypes of others.

how about the frat. Pi Kappa Phi. does any non greeks know if they are cool and what not and throw good parties etc.
i'm in it to meet new people and of course meet good looking sorority girls at parties :) hey what can I say i'm a guy hahaha
If you're joining a fraternity to party, you're joining for the wrong reason. There's A LOT of work involved...well, depending on which group you join, I guess.

Hey my friend and I are Delta Chi groupies... they are a friendly bunch of guys welcoming to those who are and aren't in a fraternity. They do a lot of fun stuff, help each other out, throw good parties and do well in school (for the most part i think). But this is just coming from a girl who has hung out there from time to time and always enjoyed herself. They are located on the first block on main st. on the east (right) side. Check em out...there's always people there who can tell you more. Good luck

So i understand Mon Sept 20 that week is my opportunity to meet greeks and visit frat houses to get a good feel? How much work would be involved in joining a frat. I keep hearing about it will keep you VERY busy and not much free time. What types of work would I be doing can any greek tell me?
FIRE UP CHIPS!!!
It depends on how involved you choose to be. My first year in Phi Tau, I did required stuff (meetings once a week, and other miscellaneous meetings). It took up maybe 3 hours a week. My 3 -5th years, there were days where I got up at 10AM, and didn't stop until 3AM because of class, work, meetings, sports, more meetings, and other things. But I loved it. It all depends on how much you choose to be involved...however, if you decide to do nothing, you'll be "dead weight." While paying dues is cool, everybody should be expected, and want, to help out.
You should also remember that once you're a member, your actions reflect on all of your brothers. If you're a member of Lambda Lambda Lambda, and you go beat the **** out of some guy, the newspaper won't say "BlahaTigers04 beats random d00d" it'll say "Fraternity man beats the **** out of random d00d." Then, of course, you make all greeks look bad, and, especially, your fraternity.
Check out www.rso.cmich.edu/phikappatau (http://www.rso.cmich.edu/phikappatau) for more info on Phi Kappa Tau, if you're doing research into the fraternities at CMU...

Too scared for frats. So I highly doubt it. the intiation process totally freaks me out!! i'm scared to death of the intiation process and would probably have a heart attack before I could rush a frat
initiation (depending on fraternity) is a piece of cake
but we're having an ice cream social here at the alpha sigma phi house (1507 e broadway) on tuesday from 6-8 or we're doing a bbq/volleyball at island park from the same time on wednesday if your interested.

I just rather focus on grades because I heard frats take up all your time with tons of work to do. plus my GPA is low and i'd rather raise than instead of spending all my time with frats. I just dont think I could go for it if I have all these negative ideas and bad vibes.
