I was wondering if anyone out there that is good with computers could help me out with mine. It is seriously ****ed up, and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to see if they could fix it. I got no money, or else i could pay you, but we can figure something out. I really apreciate it, thanks in advance.

What are the symptoms. Describe what you are doing at the time they occur. Be as descript as possible including all errors (dont be vague about error messages, take the time to write them down if you have to) and anything else you can think of.

Tim

and restart it

Well, I think Shanny cursed me. I just started getting error messages and if I choose to send the error report, it re-directs me to this page:

http://oca.microsoft.com/en/Response.asp?SID=780

Any idea what's wrong, what caused it or how I can go about fixing it?

I'm sorry Melora, didnt mean to

Tim
11-18-03, 04:57 PM
Yeah Melora, thats pretty easy

go to this link, http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10214379.html?tag=lst-0-1

and download adaware. You have some pop up stuff going on

nothing big
that program should help

Andrew

Ok. Both of you (Shanny and Melora) .. download this file...

http://ftp.pcworld.com/pub/new/privacy___security/aaw6.exe

Make sure all programs are closed. This means explorer (filemanager) windows (like c:\), and go through your system tray (the area with the icons next to the clock) and right click any icon you see there, select a close or exit option if one exists.

Run the installation file you downloaded from that link, start the program. Its called Ad-Aware. Once it starts, click the globe icon at the top to update the definition file, then start a scan. Use all the default options.

melora, you have something generically called 'spyware' on your system. Thats basically what that error report says.

Shanny, This will probably help you, but I dont know if it will fix that for you because your description was so incredibly vague (re-read what we asked for in order to help you!)

Tim

and shanny

what operating system are you using?

windows? windows ME i bet.

if thats the case, there is no hope

Lora

I don't get it though. I have AdAware and nothing comes up when I run it! I'll try it again.

It hates me.

You boys are so good to me.
God, I love computer talk ;)

This afternoon I ran Norton Antivirus and I got two Threat alerts about 2 adware files. What is adware. Should I delete the files?

Andrew
11-18-03, 05:23 PM
No, norton is retarded like that. Dont delete those files. If you google for that there are some articles regarding how norton screwed the pooch with regards to adaware.

Shanny
11-18-03, 05:48 PM

Lora

had to move this one guys. Sorry.

Hope you guys figure out your problems. yah shanny, you should be able to either quarantine the objects, or delete them. If you click the next button.

In addition, I have some registry cleaners if you guys need them. It would probably help considerably.

Lora

Registry cleaners, huh?

What do they do?
(yes, I'm well aware they "clean" your "registry", but what exacly is that?)

Sorry if I sound like a bimbo. I promise I'm really not. I am just really horrible with computer stuff.

I'm still getting weird errors all over the place! Argh.

Your registry is like a log of things that are installed on your computer

(it has a lot of other stuff too)

and sometimes these things in your registry sit there and do nothing and can cause some congestion

so a registry cleaner is like blowing your nose a for computer
it'll help you breath a little easier

There is a lot of talk about adaware, also use it in conjunction with spybot search and destroy, security.kolla.de , also download decombobulator to disable the open active X so those pesky worms don't get you, and have a good fireall on your system, (zone alarm free edition works wonders), and use AVG anti-virus if you are too lazy to grab the free Mcafee AV from the help desk offers.

You can find what version you have by clicking the big I button located in the right corner of your program screen. If you are using older version, uninstall it first and then istall ver.6.181
Make sure also the you are using the latest reference file. On the Ad-aware main screen select "Check for updates now" and if there is new update available install that one too.
After all this, run your scan and it should work.
