View Full Version : OMG! Im Sooo Sick Of Telemarketers!
Seriously, do they all get together and say "lets harass the students of CMU" ?? I mean what is going on around here? I had 3 calls today during the course of the day and they were all telemarketers selling cable tv, adds in general, verizon phone, etc etc.
Im the idiot who actually stays on the line hearing what they have to say!! Welp I just got another phone call and I flat out hung up. Im soooo sick of this crap with these people. Im busy studying and the last thing I need is them!
They used to be really bad when I was a freshman in the dorms. Credit card people would call for every single person in the dorm room at 8:00am in the morning. We would tell them to f-ck off and one time this lady got mouthy back. :D

LoL, my parents used to say "Hey, I tell you what, can u give me ur home phone number so i can call you?" and when they say no they would go, "Why not, ur doing it to me". And hang up the phone.
I just answer the phone "Thank you for calling Taco Bell, how can I help you?"
LOL. They think it's a business, and they don't bother.
Works great.
I showed my folks this during dinner-time at home (when most telemarketing calls happen.) Works like a charm every time. :sneaky:
ohhhhh some great ideas guys!! I'll have to try em
A few months ago I added my phone number to the "Do-not-call-list" and it worked like magic. If they ever call you again, they could get fined up to $12 000.
A week after registering with DMA, I stopped receiving calls. Check this link and register for free via snail mail, that's the one I used.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush on Tuesday signed legislation creating a national "do-not-call" list intended to help consumers block unwanted telemarketing calls.
The bill allows the Federal Trade Commission to collect fees from telemarketers to fund the registry, which will cost about $16 million in its first year. The do-not-call program should begin operation by summer.
Telemarketers say the registry will devastate their business. The Direct Marketing Association, an industry group, filed a lawsuit against the FTC last month on grounds the registry unlawfully restricts free speech.
Consumer groups and many lawmakers say the registry has overwhelming support from a public that is fed up with unwanted telemarketing calls.
Consumers could enroll in the free service via the Internet or a toll-free number. Telemarketers would have to check the list every three months to find out who does not want to be called. Those who call listed people could be fined up to $11,000 for each violation.
Charities, surveys and calls on behalf of politicians would be exempt.
The FTC has limited authority to police telemarketing calls from certain industries, including airlines, banks and telephone companies. The Federal Communications Commission, which oversees calls made by those industries, has been working with the FTC and is considering adding its clout to the program.
I also heard you can just ask them when they call to be added to their, "do-not-call list."
:D At least maybe there is some relief in sight.

ya ive tried that "add me to ur do not call list" and they make sure ur the "decision maker of the house" and try to keep u on longer!! the whole do not call list thing i mean, u have to say that to like 50 different telemarketers and make sure u write the name of the caller down so if they do call u back u know!!
All i know is that if they cant say my last name then its them!! my last name is hard to say!!
My dad always pretends he's a kid and says "nope my daddy isnt home"!! is so funny cause they believe him! :D

hey,
yea we all hate the telemarkets, but there are some orginizations out there that are good. i work at the alumni house on campus calling alumni and asking for their support. believe me -making the calls is no better than recieving them, but you gotta make a living some how!
I have two stories about telemarketers...
I was at my friend's house and a telemarketer called...
Me...Hello
them... hi, my name is blah from so and so, may i please speak with Mrs. MyFriendsLastName
Me... Oh, no hablo ingles
then i hung up. my friend and i laughed for like ten minutes.
My other story...
I was at my uncle's eating with my entire extended family and the phone rang during dinner, so my uncle answers, and the people are selling life insurance.. He says, oh, im terminally ill. He sounded so serious and sad. He said the girl stuttered and said, oh, ok, bye. The whole family was cracking up after he hung up the phone, and i think thats the best telemarketer trick ive ever heard. Tell them you are dying and they will leave you alone.
The national DO NO CALL registry is now operational. Register your phones at
http://donotcall.gov
(yesterday the site was slow,it was getting 1000 hits per second)
I registered yesterday and I still haven't gotten my e-mail confirmation yet.
I registered tuday and got email right away, but because of my settings it went to my junk email. :p I am all set now until 6/28/08 :D ;)
I registered on Friday and it took a long time for the email to come but it did. Don't give up it will show up!
I got the email too!!! Lets hope this shit really works. If it doesn't, i'd love to file a complaint and get some good spendin $$$ :D

I was listening on talk radio the other day and they mentioned that some telemarketing companies may start coming door to door. That will suck worse then phone calls.
Telemarketer: We have a great phone plan to tell you about!
Guy: No thanks.
Telemarketer: Say, that's a nice car you got there.
Guy: Thanks.
Telemarketer: Be a shame if somebody slashed its tires.
Guy: ...
*10 minutes later*
Telemarketer: Thank you so much for switching over phone plan!!!
Guy: *in his mind* $$@#$@!!%!!!!

Did anyone here about the guy in Duluth, Minnesota who got so agitated by the telemarketers that he struck back? he was placed on the do not call list but kept getting called by a windshield repair company multiple times each day. Well, after telling them his windshield was fine for a week, he started calling them. He called them every 5 minutes until he had called them 100 times. After figuring out their huge error, the company updated their call list and now that guy doesn't get any telemarketing calls. :D
I can deal with telemarketers, its easy to hang up, I just wish there was a stop to all that spam email I keep receiving. What ever happened to that spam email bill that was big in the news a month or two back?
